It's a shame that some people have had bad experience with Health Shield. We have continually found them to be fair and helpful. Although we find some years we don't get all our subscription payments back, this is more than balanced by the times when we get more. When we have had claims returned, it's because potentially we might be claiming something we are not entitled to, or because members' requests have influenced types of treatment covered; this is correct management of the funds for all members. If you look at the benefits available, you will see that it's possible to go beyond dentist and optician benefit. Physiotherapy, osteopathy, homeopathy, maternity and hospital inpatient are all areas from which we have benefitted. The scheme is not a static pot of money where one person pays for someone else's claims, but payments are invested and the benefits shared. Health Shield is a friendly society or mutual which is run for the benefit of its members, unlike many others, they make 100% payments on claims. We would recommend them to anyone.
My company uses healthshield as an insurer so I had to join them as part of the package. Ive been trying to use their services for the past year and Ive got to say, utterly useless and extremely difficult to deal with. They make you jump through number of hoops just to get your claim approved and then theyll send you a letter saying that something is missed out (even when it is clearly written on the receipt). The customer service is just quoting terms and conditions without LISTENING which makes it impossible to get anything sorted out. That is if you will ever get through to the call team. Waste of time and money. Ill be making recommendation to the directors to withdraw from on their services.
A completely disastrous company! they don't care about any members. the only thing i managed to get reimbursed is glasses and dental and never used a full limit, so always paid more than got back. Sadly cannot cancel my membership mid-year, but after two years when I actually needed some HELP I got nothing. Auto generated emails and multiple declines. i will surely NOT going to continue with them. there are plenty of other providers to choose from. Please don't make the same mistake as I did and dont choose this company.p.s. @HS if you wonder why this is happening please read my letter 'OC804425' not that you care really...
They make it up as they go along, after 13 months of sending the same receipts in for a regular treatment I had no issues, then all of a sudden the receipts are wrong and the explanation they give is patronising, some claims take for ever as well. The system and idea is a great one and if it works its brilliant but the customer service is terrible and you feel like a criminal when ringing up.
Just brilliant - I have now got the hang of claimimg for my health benefits on line. Such a simple system. For what I pay the benefits are just brilliant. As for the phone lines - Ive yet to have any problem or significant delays in speaking to anyone. I have been with this society for almost as long as I have worked & paying my subscriptions through payroll means I don't even miss the money! The fees are really reasonable and it never seems to take much to cover my initial costs. Just add specs and teeth & I about break even. Rarely claim for anything else but it is great to know they are available to cover all sorts of medical related expenses.In the past when considering going private for medical assistance the Health Shield have been most helpful explaining what and how to claimOf all the medical schemes Ive come across I believe this is the best!
